Free software, once it’s out
Owlseen will be published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. The code isn’t public yet: it opens with the first release.
The license in plain words
- You may run it, for any purpose, your business included.
- You may read the code and change it.
- You may share it, under the same license.
- If you offer a modified version to others over a network, you publish your changes under the same license.
A summary, not legal advice: the license itself is what counts.
What’s public today
- The organisation on GitHub, with no public repository yet
- This site, and what it says about the plan
- Nothing to download or install
What self-hosting is expected to need
From how the first version is being built. It may change before release, and this page will change with it.
- Node, and a Next.js app to build and start
- Postgres
- A Google Cloud project with an OAuth client and the Search Console API enabled
- Your Bing Webmaster Tools access
- Something to call the daily jobs that keep the history going
One trap worth knowing now
Google issues refresh tokens that expire after 7 days to an external OAuth client whose consent screen is in Testing. Publish it to production, or the daily jobs stop every week.
Connecting an assistant
The MCP server is planned at /api/mcp, like the publisher’s other products. Once it’s out, you’d add that address to Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client as a remote connector.

Issues and pull requests will open with the repository. Until then, tell us what you’d need: it helps decide what gets built first.
